Comfort engineers successfully completed the installation of
Heat Recovery Air Conditioning systems
for a new Art Gallery of Richard Green
in New Bond Street, London.
This exclusive gallery specialises in
British Sporting, Marine, French
Impressionist and modern British
paintings. This highly prestigious building
has been completely renovated from
basement to 4th floor and contains both
general and private viewing areas
together with storage, renovation
workshops and the offices of this leading
private art dealer.
With such a valuable and unique
collection of art passing through the
gallery, air conditioning was essential in
this building and the systems designed
and installed by Comfort were put in to
operation and commissioned with a
minimum inconvenience and within the
renovation programme.
Daikin VRV Heat Recovery systems
were selected for this building and
provide the major heating and cooling
using 3 no. RSEY10K and 1 no.
RSEY8K outdoor heat pumps. All are
capable of recovering energy from the
building and then transferring it to other
areas that may have an opposite
requirement to adjoining areas. It is
possible to use the heat rejected by
cooling one area and then transfer this to
heat an adjoining room simultaneously.
Similarly, the process used to provide
space heating also generates cooling. In
a standard system this is rejected to
external air. The VRV Heat Recovery
system can also transfer this cooling to
areas, which may have a high heat gain
in winter. This can be achieved with
almost minimal energy usage under the
right conditions.
Additionally 2 no. RY125 Heat Pump
twin split systems served the rear gallery
areas, each connected to a pair of FHYB
ducted concealed fan coil units.
The main galleries and offices are each
served by individual concealed fan coil
units, type FXYS, mounted within the
false ceiling with supply and return
ductwork and wall mounted linear
diffusers, each room having the facility to
be individually temperature controlled.
Controllers are a miniature pattern, built
in to the wall, wired back to each room
unit and enable the user to select
operating times, space temperature, fan
speeds and also warn when the air filter
will require inspection for possible
cleaning. The controllers only measure
90mm x 60mm.

There is also a Daikin centralised control
management system to allow the areas
design parameters to be pre-set and
override user settings to prevent possible
damage due to excess temperatures to
the valuable contents of this building.
This also prevents unnecessary
operation that can waste energy.
Particular attention was paid to ensuring
that the installed systems could be
regularly maintained and serviced with
minimum disruption to the galleries day
to day operation. Comfort worked closely
with the building designers and owners
to ensure that adequate maintenance
access was maintained by provision of
suitable built in panels.
With so many specialist new works being
carried out during the renovation, close
co-operation was required by all trades.
Comfort played their part, producing fully
detailed drawings to ensure that any
service clashes were eliminated at
design stage and that all services and
equipment would be contained within the
new ceiling voids.
All major items of plant were located at
roof level and required specialist lifting in
to the building. Comfort managed this
operation together with organisation of
the necessary permit of and subsequent
road closures.
The roof areas contain the Daikin Heat
Pumps and the fresh air supply system,
which provides tempered air to all areas
of the building.
Comfort provide a full after installation facility and
continue their regular association with
the client and building by carrying out
regular preventative maintenance and
service support.
